Chantal Rancourt

I spent twenty years teaching and have experienced the full gamut from FDK to Grade 6 both in the Regular and Immersion programs.  In 2015, I decided to follow my second passion which is to advocate for others and I began in my role as Unit President.  In this role and with the help of all executive members, I work to serve the elementary members in Sudbury in a variety of ways.  While upholding our collective agreement is a large part of my role, I also enjoy all of the social events we plan.  I am so proud to be a member of Sudbury Elementary Catholic teachers!

OECTA is a teachers’ association that represents 45,000 professionals who teach all grades in publicly funded English Catholic schools in Ontario.

We promote the professional and contractual welfare of our members, promotes the principles of Catholic education, and defends the constitutional rights of the Catholic school system in Ontario. OECTA is affiliated with the Ontario Teachers' Federation, the Canadian Teachers' Federation, Education International, the Ontario Federation of Labour and the Canadian Labour Congress.

Our Sudbury Elementary unit has approximately 400 members. The main responsibilities of the local bargaining unit are to represent its members by ensuring adherence to the collective agreement, negotiating with the local school board, processing member grievances, and advocating for a safe workplace.
